March 2018

The 2018 UCI Supercross World Cup kicks off this weekend at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines SQY, just outside Paris. We caught up with Great Britain’s Quillan Isidore, who has recently been at the facility for a GB training camp, to get the low-down down on the track and what to expect at the weekend …

15: Before we get into the track, how has the injury recovery been going, are you back to 100% yet?

Quillan: I’m back to 100% now. The recovery process went extreme well actually and a lot quicker and smoother than expected.

15: So, the Paris track, overall did you like it?

Quillan: Yes, really liked it! Nice open first straight with the rest of the track being nice and technical. I do hope the rain holds off as the corners aren’t fully protected by the rain and they’re quite flat and slippery.

15: Anything on the track you particularly didn’t like? What was your favourite section?

Quillan: Would just say the corners as they’re quite flat but that’s me nit picking. The track is great and will make for some great racing.

15: Did it take you long to get it dialled in? Are riders who turn up at the end of the month and have never ridden it going to have any issues?

Quillan: No, we all covered the track off within the first session so I think the majority of riders will adapt straight away.

15: Looks like a lot of first straight pedalling … looking forward to that?

Quillan: Haha yeah, I was on a 43 16 on that camp so I was pedalling like crazy! I quite like it though.

15: Is the track design going to lend itself to good racing?

Quillan: Yeah it will. A lot of spaces to pass and corners are wide open!

15: Where do you think the passing opportunities are going to be?

Quillan: I think you’ll see a lot of moves on the corners but again the track is wide open so you’re gonna have passing everywhere!

15: Is the track going to suit any particular type of rider …. power, technical? That third straight looks deep!

Quillan: Will suit someone who’s got a strong first straight evidently. But you’ll need a bit of everything to be successful there!

15: We know you’ve not ridden the track before the recent ‘Pro Track’ changes, but what have Tre and Kyle been saying about it …. old or new?

Quillan: They never actually got to ride the SX hill when they went but they definitely prefer the new changes. More challenging but more enjoyable.

15: Any race predictions for us? Will someone upset the French on their home track?

Quillan: Well let’s hope it’s the GB riders that do 😅 the French look great on that track but again, everyone will adapt to the track very quickly so it’s for taking.

15: We know you’re spoiled in Manchester but what are the facilities around the Paris track like?

Quillan: Amazing! Such a looked after professional set up. The roof is extremely helpful – especially with the amount of snow we dealt with whilst we there!

15: After France what are your race plans? Where are you looking forward to racing this year?

Quillan: I’ll be racing Verona European the weekend before and after pairs we’ll be as a team looking to race all the world cups and a good chunk of the European rounds. And of course, worlds!
