The door to the Supercross BMX Factory team was opened for Australia’s Oliver Moran earlier this year when his club, Sarrians BMX, the French one, joined forces with Supercross. When “they partnered, I was able to chat with Bill to make something happen” Oli told us. With both Oli and Kye Whyte on the team, Bill at Supercross began the process of producing an extra long carbon frame that his riders wanted. The XXXL Vision F1 was born … “the top tube that Oil, Kye, and Gaige are running is 23” (484mm), and the rear stays are 405mm at full extension and 390mm all the way forward in the Flip Chip” Bill let us know when we asked.

Oli’s custom colour, ‘Black Pearl’, is also a rider request, “Oli wanted a custom color, he loved the Mystic Prime but wanted something with a more Australian Vibe” Bill told us. “The Black Pearl is part of the Australian culture, and its color shifts from black, to blue, to green in different light … and so, that’s what his frame does.”

The DeadFast Relentless …

The DeadFast Relentless …

​True to the DeadFast aesthetic, this ‘Relentless’ build is beautifully dark and moody … albeit with a little bling thrown into the mix. But despite the obvious aesthetic thread, DeadFast tell us that they design ‘for purpose first, then aesthetics, so all the angles and lines are designed for maximum strength and rigidity, the bottom bracket to chainstay area is extra stiff and oversized to reduce any flex’.

The ‘Relentless’ frame design spanned a 12-month period to finalize before committing to a mould, then another 12 months of testing followed before they were ready for production.

The top tube of the ‘Relentless’ is one continuous line that transitions to the rear dropouts to reduce any stress raisers, and the off-set flat disc mounts are set up so you can use a standard rear hub.

The frames dropouts come with a 15mm thru bolt and blind nut, as well as a 10mm kit so you can use any 10mm female bolt rear hub should you so wish.

DeadFast went with a standard seat tube clamp rather than the integrated version. They told us, they have ‘yet to see any built-in seat clamp systems work well on carbon BMX frames’.

One of the most interesting features of the frame is the front end and the fork integration. DeadFast’s Daniel Steel told us, ‘I wanted to stiffen up the front without making it bulky so coming from a freestyle background I spoke to our factory about gussets, then we borrowed some technology from the road frames they make and it worked perfectly with our forks, the result is a no nonsense ultra responsive frame set’ … ‘we have had many pro riders test these bikes and received comments like, “this gates so well”, “corners so much faster” and “this is the stiffest, fastest bike I’ve ridden”. I can’t say exactly who, as they ride for other companies, but all compared the test rides to their existing carbon bikes’

After 24 months in development, the company are still finalizing is the tensioner system, it’s currently a bolt on arm with a super simple and easy to adjust slider … ‘we are still fine tuning the angles to be the most efficient as possible’.

The ‘Relentless’ frame is available in Pro, Pro XL and Pro XXL sizes. The Pro model frame is specifically designed to be able to use 20 x 1 3/8 wheels then transition to 20×1.6 etc as the rider needs to.
