2020 UCI Houston Worlds | Cancelled

7 July 2020

It’s official, the 2020 UCI BMX World Championships have been cancelled following ‘extensive dissucsions’!

The event that was due to take place 21st – 26th May in Houston at the Rock Star Energy Bike Park had been postponed due to the global #covid19 pandemic has now been cancelled ‘at the request of the organisers’. In a statement released today, July 7th, the UCI said ‘Despite its best efforts to come up with an alternative, the UCI regrets to announce that there will be no UCI World Championships in the discipline in 2020.’

With the 2021 Papendal Worlds now scheduled for August 17th – 22nd, which is an unusually late date, especially in an Olympic year, Alise Willoughby, Twan van Gendt, Jessie Smith and Tatyan Lui Hin Tsan are looking at a record breaking 25 months in the rainbow stripes. With no World Championships scheduled prior to Tokyo 2021, we are now wondering how the Olympic spots slated to be awarded based on Worlds results will end up being dished out?

Included in the July 7th announsment from the UCI was the rescheduled date for the Rock Hill UCI Supercross rounds, which are now scheduled to take place on November 6th and 7th.
