We’ve been admiring Robyn Gommers’s mirror polished Supercross Envy RS7 Fastback, an RS7 for the disc brake world, since we first saw her flaunt it on Instagram. So obviously we hit her up for a bike check before her first race on it, which, coincidentally, will be her first race in the Jr. Women’s class and her first on the 8m hill. Verona’s 8m hill, or the jump at the bottom should not cause any issues for Robyn or her twin sister, Aiko, who are both regularly seen blasting every jump on their local track, Zolder BMX.
With Covid19, and the lack of racing here in Europe over the last year we are a little out of the loop as to who will be on the gate in the Jr. classes this weekend in Verona. We had been thinking the Belgian twins would be a good bet for the podium, and we still are of that frame of mind, but Robyn is taking the more pragmatic approach and keeping one eye on the competition, ‘There’s going be some fast girls in the Jr. Women class this weekend. Lea Brindjonc and Mariane Beltrando from France, Francesca Cingolani from Argentina, Liva Glazere from Latvia and of course my sister Aiko. Also, there’s a Canadian girl on the list, so it’s not only Europe that’s going be there this weekend’ she told us.
The UEC Rounds this weekend will be your only chance to catch Robyn, as she and her sister will be back in Belgium by the following weekend when the UCI takes over the Verona facility, ‘We’re only racing one weekend unfortunately, so only the European round. But I’m really excited to finally race again after such a long time. My first race on the big hill so I’ll see what that brings’. Despite not hanging around for the UCI World Cup, we expect to see both the twins feature heavily at the events over the next few years as they move into the Elite class, with Paris 2024 on the distant horizon, ‘My biggest goal for the future is of course the Olympic games in 2024 Paris. It would be really awesome to go there together with Aiko’ … until then, we’ll have to make do with her beautiful Envy RS7 Fastback …
