For the first time, that we are aware of, both the ‘Challenge’ and ‘Masters’ classes at the UCI BMX Racing World Championships will require transponders on all competitors’ bikes. The timing system for these categories this coming May in Rock Hill will be operated by Australian timing system company, Sqorz.
It’s expected that approximately 3500 ‘Challenge and Masters’ riders will enter the event, many of whom will already be familiar with the Sqorz system. If you are in one of the many countries that are already using the Sqorz system, such as, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, Norway, Germany, Switzerland and the USA, you can use your current transponder in Rock Hill. All competitors who do not currently have a Sqorz compatible transponder will be provided with one for the event.
From our perspective this is a great leap forward for both the organisational aspect of the event as well as the benefits to the riders and national teams. Live timing will be available via the now familiar (to most) Our Sqorz portal (exact link published closer to the event).
Martin Ward, owner of Sqorz, has been working behind the scenes for quite some time, we spoke to him in Nantes, to get the system introduced for the Challenge classes, and when we caught up with him about this latest news, he told us this … ‘Developing Sqorz to manage transponders for Challenge and Masters categories at the World Championships required dedicated effort over several years. We’re proud of our product and grateful to the City of Rock Hill for this valuable opportunity to enhance the event experience for all participants. Beyond this event, we envision a future where transponders unlock BMX’s full potential. Imagine all riders, regardless of age or skill level, experiencing accurate and reliable timing through Sqorz, not just the top competitors. This vision drives our development, pushing us with every line of code.’
See you all in Rock Hill!
