Adam Carey | Tempo Allegro
Australian Elite rider, possibly soon to be Master contender, and Thai National Coach, Adam Carey, has been deep in the trenches with Australian brand, Tempo BMX, developing the new Allegro frame. We recently got a look at the prototype frames being tested by Adam, but now the final production units have arrived, and they look interesting to say the least … so we thought Bike Check!
The new frames come in at the high end of the price bracket for aluminium at $849 AUD, approx. $660 USD. Add the full carbon forks from Tempo BMX to the package and you’re looking at a hefty $1298 AUD. But, like we said it does look slick, and if you did get your hands on one in the near future, you’d be in a pretty unique group … for now at least.
Adam told us ‘The final design of this frame puts in a tonne of testing, sport science and consideration for riders. Brake systems and bike maintenance are some underlying considerations. Coaching in Asian countries and experiencing the WC circuit now, I saw a lot of riders often stranded when their bikes would fail. This bike can run V-brakes (which I am currently testing for the next month) and a bolt on disc brake mount set for 140mm. Instead of internal routing and having to do brake fluid lines every time this thing can clip them on and off. SIMPLE.’
Tempo BMX and Adam have also been considering the customisability and longevity of the offering ‘We decided to do decals in order for riders to simply buy a new sticker kit or customise their ride a ‘little bit with different coloured decals etc. I have seen a lot of BMXers making the first few years of their 14-16-year age group classes on second-hand bikes so with the availability of new decals every year etc you have your frame always looking fresh.’ On the other hand, Adam admits the Allegro frame may not be for everyone, the old school dirt turn connoisseurs for example, ‘It would be remiss of me to not mention possible downsides, with the frame providing fantastic straight-line speed due to the improvements in drive alignment, jumping position etc. it can make it tough to turn on tight, dirt turns. Like anything you can train to improve your cornering on this bike, but it was the only noticeable downside from the initial testing review. However, it should be noted that on Supercross tracks the larger turns and higher speeds meant that turning didn’t provide a noticeable difference. By the time I had 3 to 4 rides on my XXL Allegro the corners were no longer noticeable, and my lap times continued to decrease.
