Engineering the “Launch”.
The Vision F1x is not merely an update; it is a material revolution. While building upon the world-renowned geometry of the Vision F1, Supercross engineers have integrated a proprietary blend of Toray M40x and M46x Prepreg Carbon Fiber—the same high-performance materials trusted by the Red Bull F1 Team for their chassis and utilized in critical aerospace applications.

Historically, carbon fiber engineering faced a “trade-off” problem: increasing stiffness usually meant losing durability. The F1x breaks this rule using the Torayca™ MX Series. By utilizing nano-level control of the graphite crystallite structure, the M46x fiber is approximately 20% stronger than previous high-modulus fibers while maintaining extreme rigidity.

For the racer, this translates to “The Launch.” The high-modulus fibers act as a reinforced spine, resisting lateral flex during a Pro-level gate start and ensuring 100% of the rider’s energy is transferred to the rear wheel. This “livelier” feel has already been validated on the track by elite team riders Kye Whyte and Oli Moran, who describe the bike as “jumping” forward the moment they engage.

A Record-Breaking Legacy.
This launch follows a historic milestone at the 2025 USA BMX Grand National, where the racing community voted Supercross the Golden Crank Bike of the Year for a record-breaking 8th time.

“Winning that 8th Golden Crank was a massive honor, but we aren’t the type to sit back and rest on our records,” said Bill Ryan, owner of Supercross BMX. “That recognition has only made us dig harder to ensure we are giving the BMX community the world’s best products. Australia’s Crisp Bros. Racing have entered the World of Carbon BMX frames with the CBR04-C. The company has been working on the frame, on and off, since 2021 and currently have four prototypes out being tested by team riders.

Crisp Bros. Racing expects to start taking pre-orders in July 2026, once testing is complete. Once released the CBR04-C will come in an impressive amount sizes, Pro | PXL | PXXL | PXXL+ | PXXXL | CruiserXL & XXL. The ‘performance blue with neon orange/black decals’ prototype shown here, an PXXL+ with a top tube length of 22.25”, belongs to Zane Bourke.

The frame details we know so far …

– Full carbon monocoque design constructed from premium Toray T800+T1100 carbon fibre with ‘self-developed specialised resin’. Crisp Bros. claim it provides exceptional tensile strength and performance.

– Strengthened Bottom Bracket and head tube areas, ‘exceeding the strength of competitors’ frames by more than 30%’.

– Oversized rear back end to suit 10mm & 15mm axles, with over 40mm of adjustment.

– 27.2 integrated seat clamp setup.

– Euro BB & tapered head tube.

– Chainstays can accommodate up to a 53t chainring.

The New Inspyre ERA Carbon Frame

The New Inspyre ERA Carbon Frame.

Despite the fact that you have probably already heard a little about the new Inspyre ERA Carbon frame, or even seen it at a race with Michael Bias or Mathis Ragot Richard, today is the official unveiling. And if you’re lucky enough to be in Tulsa for the Grands, you can get an up close and personal look and the new design.

The ERA Frames has been in development for a number of years over at Inspyre, with the first prototype coming two years after the initial sketches.

Inspyre told us, “This project represents a significant step forward for Inspyre, combining advanced carbon engineering, rider-driven design, and competitive performance. The ERA Carbon has been refined across multiple prototype phases, validated in competition by Elite riders, and shaped through extensive real-world feedback.”

As mentioned above, the ERA has already been on the racetrack. Bias took it to a UEC Euro Cup final earlier this year, and Mathis raced it at the UCI World Cup in Argentina. They initially planned to race it at the Worlds in Denmark but decided it was too early for the potential exposure.

The design of the frame is based around the ‘structural centre’ of the frame, the bottom bracket. The BB Yoke, inconjunction with the Top Yoke, stiffens the entire rear triangle. Which, along with the ‘AXC Layup’ of the carbon gives the frame stiffness, but only where it’s required, “The goal was never to make ERA ‘stiff everywhere’, but to make it stiff only where it truly enhances performance, and to ensure natural, predictable, enjoyable handling.” …“It was to determine where stiffness is beneficial — and where it should give way to controlled flex to preserve natural riding feel.” A novel approach in the design on carbon frames in BMX … sometimes all that stiffness can be detrimental … or even a little uncomfortable.

The rear dropout design also gives options, they can use the now common type of drop-down tensioner / idler, which allows the wheel to remain in the same position should you change gearing, or you can go the more traditional route of just sliding the wheel in the 35mm of adjustment in the dropout. There is, unfortunitily, no option to return to the lighter V-Brake option in the design though … we’re still a fan of the lighter, less cumbersome and simpler brakes of the past … we accept we are in the minority here …

Overall, the new Inspyre design looks intriguing, it’s been designed with a goal in mind, with thought. It’s not just modified from a catalogue. Pricing (subject to change), starts at €1899 / $1999. We’re looking forward to getting our hands on one for a closer look.

The list of key specifications …

ZS44 / ZS56 Headset (tapered) – Allows the use of a modern, precise and stiff tapered headset. This standard improves front-end stability and provides sharper, more accurate steering.

BB386 Bottom Bracket – Wide, stiff and compatible with 24 mm and 30 mm crank axles to maximise power transfer and reactivity under load.

Flat Mount Brake Standard (120 mm) – Compact, lightweight and fully integrated. Designed for a 120mm rotor, more than enough for BMX where extreme braking power is unnecessary. The goal, precision, reduced weight and a clean aesthetic.

Axial Dropouts (15 mm + 10 mm adapters) – Dropouts engineered around a 15 mm axle for maximum stiffness and precision. Thanks to our adapters, ERA remains 100% compatible with 10 mm.

Fully guided internal cable routing – The brake hose runs through a dedicated internal channel: just push it in — everything lines up automatically. Fast, clean and frustration-free installation.

No proprietary seat post or clamp – ERA uses common standards for both the seat post and seat clamp. In case of an issue, finding a replacement part is easy, anywhere in the world.

After four or five years in existence it’s becoming hard to call Marshal Racing a ‘new’ French brand, afterall four years in BMX can feel like a lifetime. Over that time, they have been evolving and tweaking their alloy frames to a point where their Punisher V2 more closely resembled carbon than the 6061 T6 aluminium it was constructed from … which kinda had us wondering why not just go the whole hog and jump into carbon. And now they have. The SR71 Blackbird Supersonic will hit the streets on December 1st, in a Pro XL (21”) and ProXXL (21.5”), with a ProXXL (22”), and ProXXXL (22.5”) following in February 2025.

Lionel Ribiere, the President of the LRB Racing Group, told us, ‘Expanding into the carbon market has always been part of our medium-term plan. Carbon fibre offers several advantages, such as increased stiffness, reduced weight, and the ability to create complex shapes that are difficult to achieve with alloy’.

We were glad to hear that the new frame has been designed from the ground up over a two-year R&D period, and thankfully, relies on 100% new tooling. Nothing erks us more than seeing a ‘new’ frame hit the market that has clearly been sourced in a manufactures catalogue.

Marshal Racing have been unitising their experienced U23 Belgium rider, Mathis Carlier, during the development period to help dial in, and ‘optimize every aspect of the frame, from stiffness to responsiveness and comfort’. The new frame is ultimately constructed using a one-piece monocoque process rather than bonding sections together resulting in ‘optimal stiffness’ and enabling ‘better weight distribution while preserving the integrity of the frame’.

Visually, the SR71 Blackbird looks like a Marshal Racing frame, maintaing the brands aesthetic, although it’s clearly evolved. It’s low-slung feel, and low centre of gravity will fit perfectly into the Marshal line up. As the name would suggest, the frame has been inspired by the ‘iconic American spy plane, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird’.

‘The plane’s reputation for speed, agility, and cutting-edge technology made it a natural choice for our new carbon frame.’ Lionel told us, ‘The sleek design and advanced capabilities of the SR-71 inspired us to create an equally impressive bike … Beyond its name, we wanted to translate the entire aesthetic of a supersonic aircraft into this frame’.

Like all carbon frames to recently emerge, the SR71 Blackbird, introduces it’s take on the rear drop out, and they have gone further than most. The large ‘patented rear adjustment system’, dubbed the ‘Semi-Circular System’ by Marshal, provides a 50mm adjustment in 6 fixed positions for a 10mm rear axle, or 4 positions for a 15mm rear axle. While it may be complex looking when compared to the more traditional BMX dropout, Marshal tells us, ‘the system is quick and easy to adjust, without the need for any special tools. Tighten your wheel, and it will be immediately straight’, while guaranteeing ‘maximum rigidity at each setting, for optimal power transfer and better stability’.

The rear dropouts (can we call them that anymore?) have 7075 alloy machined reinforcements imbedded in the carbon to strengthen the entire area and maintain durability and stiffness especially when it comes to the forces required by the use of disc brakes. The integrated disc brake adapter is designed to be compatible with all market standards which is handy. The eagle eyed among you will have also noticed that the slot for the 80mm chain tensioner mounting is present on both sides. Marshal envisages the extra slot being used for the integration of ‘connected devices’ … imagine GoPro mounts and the likes. Don’t be surprised to see the ‘Semi-Circular System’ appear on future aluminium frames from the brand.

Marshal Racing describe the frames geometry as ‘aggressive’, telling us it’s ‘characterized by hydroformed tubes with specific sections, offering both stiffness and lightness. Its wheelbase and head angle give it exceptional handling, ideal for the most demanding riders. The chain path has been carefully designed to eliminate any frame contact and accommodate a gear ratio as high as 52×18. Although we drew inspiration from our alloy frames for some basics, the SR71’s geometry is unique. Carbon fibre allowed us to push the limits of design further, creating organic shapes and complex tube sections that optimize stiffness and resistance to stress. The result? A frame that combines the performance of a supersonic aircraft with the precision of a competition tool’.

Each frame comes with a unique serial number printed on the top tube along with a ‘USA Designed’ emblem … although with three Olympic medals we’d be embracing the ‘French-ness’.

The SR71 Blackbird will cost you €1890.00 when released, which will include the frame, the chain tensioner and the disc brake adapter.

Realistically it was BMX forks that en masss adopted carbon as a material in our sport. In the beginning they, carbon forks, were plagued by failures and the inevitable uptake resistance, but now, in 2023, we’re at the point that the designs, engineering and a more in-depth knowledge of the material have made carbon ubiquitous, especially in forks. So, before we even got our hands on the Deadfast Stryker Carbon Forks, we expected them to be rock solid. And when they arrived at Fifteen HQ, they were exactly that. Well designed, extremely rigid, light … and they look bad ass!

Visually, Deadfast have kept the look on brand, going with the dark, stealthy look. The forks are beefy with some subtlety integrated curves. We love the exposed carbon with faded black paint down at the dropouts. Logos are understated with only a small ‘DF’ on the outside, and a ‘Deadfast racing’ on the inside face … both relying on the subtle contrast of black on black. We love the look. There are two small, embossed, lightning bolts at the top of the forks, which is a nice touch, although they do every so slightly distract from the clean lines. They are very tactile though, so expect lots of people to come rub the lightning!

Feature wise the forks have 20mm dropouts but come with 10mm adapters. The steer tube is the now standard, tapered 1 1/8” to 1 1/2” variety. You have a choice of either an alloy steer tube, like our set, or a carbon one. We’d always go for the full carbon fork, but Deadfast told us that during their research they ‘noticed some damaged carbon steerer tubes due to some stem clamping systems and wanted a more user proof product to back up the high-performance full carbon version’. The alloy steer tube version of the forks weighs in at 540 grams, while the full carbon fork comes in at 460 grams. Luckily you have options here.

We’re not sure if other bands do this, but we love the built-in 45° bearing race. It worked perfectly during installation. Why isn’t this more widely embraced? Are we missing something?

Our set also came with some genuine Australian Vegemite, we highly recommend you never try it haha.

As we’re sure you know by now, there are different varieties of carbon available, Deadfast are opting for a combination of T700 and T800 High Modulus Carbon Fiber in their design with integrated 6061 T6 Alloy reinforced dropouts. The included top cap is machined from 7075-T6 Alloy. All top draw stuff!

When it came to testing the forks on the track, we enlisted Jr. Elite rider, Charlie Jackson. He encountered zero issues when swapping out his previous setup for the Deadfast Stryker Carbon Forks and like us, was also impressed with the look and feel of them, including the convenience of the integrated bearing race.

Charlie was particularly impressed with the feel of the bike the track, noting the extra stiffness and responsiveness from the front end. This was especially noticeable on the gate when compared to his previous carbon forks. When pressed on what didn’t like about the Deadfast forks, there was nothing of significance that came to light … ‘nothing really, they feel solid, … and fast!’

Just to fully test the forks, Charlie kindly recreated a significant crash resulting in a trip to A & E for some x-rays on his hand (he’ll be good in a week) … the forks were fine, not a scratch!

There are a lot of carbon fork options out there, and they are not all created equal. If you are looking to upgrade what you have or are just now considering the move to carbon, we think you should add the Deadfast Strykers to your short list. Save weight, add some stiffness, extract more responsiveness from your front end … and like we said previously … the look bad ass!

We’ve recently gotten our hands on a production set of the extremely slick Speedline Elite Hollow Carbon Cranks, and we’ve fallen in love … all over again! For the last year (see here) we have been using a pre-production sample of the cranks and have had zero issues … they’ve been flawless. The only differences we can see with the production set is a graphical change on the rear of the cranks and an upgrade in the product finish … not that the finish of our pre-production set was an issue.

The cranks are designed and built for a fully formed human, no weight limits, just weight savings. Compared to the most popular alloy crank set you are saving more than 200 grams. That’s a significant saving, a saving you can feel! They also feel stiffer. Obviously, ‘feel’ is personal, but we’re confident in saying the ‘feel is real’.

The Speedline Elite Hollow Carbon Cranks come with everything needed to get rolling, the carbon cranks and four bolt spider, pedal washers, an oversized 30mm spindle, a Euro bottom bracket, a bottom bracket tool, a quality allen key, and a crank removal tool … now all you need to do is get your hands on a polished CXP Racing (review here) chainring to dial up the blink level to 15!

Given everything that comes in the kit, set up is straightforward. Everything went together with ease for both our pre, and production sets, make sure you have BB spacers on hand to diall in that chain line. The included EB30 bottom bracket is light and smooth, we guess you could upgrade to ceramic, to go with the carbon, but again we’ve no issues with the included one.

The cranks are hand laid with Torray Nano Alloy Carbon and to quote Speedline Parts, they are then ‘high compaction moulded to form the lightest and stiffest crank structure on the market. Add in the oversized 30mm Spindle, and you have the best power transfer possible! Its Carbon Fiber spider features special layers of carbon titanium composites along with its 7075 aluminium insert to maximize power transfer and minimize weight’.

The Speedline Elite Hollow Carbon Cranks are available in 165mm, 170mm, 175mm and 180mm sizes and come in any colour once it’s gloss or matt black. We wouldn’t be surprized if Speedline offer sporadic colour options in the future. We should also note that Speedline Parts have just released a Mini version, and while we’ve not laid our hands on them, we have no reason to suspect any quality or performance differences to their big brother.

As you’d expect, the Speedline Elite Hollow Carbon Cranks are not cheap. The come in at a whopping €699.95 … but if you are looking for the cutting edge of crank technology in BMX, then this is it. Stiffer, lighter, and cooler … with no rider weight limit, a gamechanger …

We have a lot in common with our mate Joe, he loves BMX and beer as much as we do here at LUX BMX, and when he saw the Meybo HSX carbon release dates early this year, he got so psyched that he actually doubled down and ordered not only this Pro 22, but also a matching 24-inch cruiser frame. No matter how old you are, new bike day is always a good day and once the cruiser is built, both rigs will be spec’d identically.

The LUXLAB has built a few of these now and our building guru Ev is super impressed with the quality of these frames, with the flat mount disc brake set up and fixed rear chainstay making for a super tidy frame. A little controversial, not having traditional dropouts makes gearing changes quick and easy without the problem of juggling a axle mounted calliper whilst you try to slot your thru-bolt in without dropping washes etc.

Word back from our customers that are already out there tearing up the tracks on their HSX carbons is that they are a real weapon. Check out our images and scope the part’s list, we reckon it’s one of our best builds to date.

French brand ICE are the latest manufacturer to release a carbon frame onto the BMX market. The Raptor, a unique looking design, is the brands first foray into the carbon frame world, an increasingly competitive segment of the frame market. The Ice ‘Raptor’ is produced from the ‘quality Toray T700 and T800 carbon fiber’, the later being ‘used for reinforcement’.

The Raptor frame is moulded, using ‘EPS technology’ in two parts and then glued together using a ‘high-quality American glue’. ICE tells us, of the EPS technology ‘we use finishing EPS, which are then wrapped in Latex, allowing an optimal molding of the fiber avoiding any overlapping of it and making the internal structure of our frames perfectly wrinkled. This way the fiber is perfectly oriented, transition of angles is smooth, avoiding any concentration of stresses on a specific point’.

The Raptor is disc a brake specific frame, with the ‘Arch’ type rear stays designed to be used with a rear disc-brake caliper in ‘flatmount standard, which makes everything very discrete’. The frame is compatible with a Ø140mm disc.

The frames dropouts are compatible with either a 10mm or 15mm axel, both of which come with the frame. For the bottom bracket ICE have stuck with the tried and trusted English threaded BSA 24, with the headset being the now standard, tapered 1 1/8 to 1.5”.

Interestingly, the ‘revolutionary I.R.C chain-tensioning’ system allows the chain to be removed without having to ‘disassemble the rear wheel’, meaning once set, you can always maintain your preferred rear wheel position.

The ICE Raptor frame is available in four sizes, PRO, PRO XL, PRO 2XL, PRO 3XL, with the XXL weighing in at 1.38 Kgs. The Raptor is available in any colour, once it’s Matte Grey.
